The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
