The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
