The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
