Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 And verily I fear my kindred after me, and my wife hath been barren; so bestow on me from before Thee an heir. 5 who will be my heir as well as an heir [to the dignity] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Sustainer, well-pleasing to Thee!" 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 "O John! Hold the Book with all your strength." We had bestowed wisdom upon him while he was still a child; 12 And (made him) sympathetic to men as a mercy (or a grant) from Us, and pure from sins [i.e. Yahya (John)] and he was righteous, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 And Peace be unto him the day he was born and the day he dieth and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
