The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
