And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 “You and your forefathers preceding you.” 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 And Who feedeth me and watereth me. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
