▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
