The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 it scorches the skin; 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
