He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honored books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
