Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
True are the words of God the Almighty.
