The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
