The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
