The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they behold a sign, they turn away and say: magic continuous 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Then he called upon His Lord: “Verily I am vanquished; so come You to my aid.” 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And caused springs to gush out from the earth, so that the two waters met totalling a quantity that had been destined. 12 And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
