The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To whom the angels and the soul take a day to ascend, whose length is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Save worshippers. 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
