The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 stay away from sins 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
