Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the clear Book, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Yet they turn away from him and say: "Tutored (by others), a man possessed!" 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
