The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount (of Revelation); 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the swollen sea, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
