The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
