The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 The piercing star! 3 There is no soul but that it has over it a protector. 4 Let man consider what he was made of: 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 On the Day when secrets are disclosed, 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 By oath of the sky from which comes down the rain. 11 And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants), 12 BEHOLD, this [divine writ] is indeed a word that distinguishes between truth and falsehood, 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 And I am plotting a plot. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
