Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
