The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
