The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
