Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: hearken they unto you when ye cry? 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 and He gives me to eat and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 when we considered you equal to the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 nor a loving friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
