The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
