The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
