۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
