He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
