And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said, “Do you see these – (the idols) whom you worship?” 75 and what your grandfathers worshipped 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 Who hath created me, and He guideth me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
