Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
