Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
