The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
