Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
