The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its brightness 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
