AND WHEN the messengers [of God] came to the house of Lot, 61 he said, "You seem to be strangers". 62 They said, “In fact we have brought to you the matter which these people doubted.” 63 and we have come to you with the truth, and surely we are truthful, 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 We communicated to him Our decree that the guilty ones would be destroyed by the morning. 66 The people of the city came to him rejoicing. 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They answered: "Have we not forbidden thee [to offer protection] to any kind of people?" 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay. 74 Surely in this are signs for those who examine. 75 The place (where this occurred) lies along a known route. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
