So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 He abandoned his people 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Had he not glorified God, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill; 145 and We caused a gourd tree to grow over him. 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed, therefor We gave them comfort for a while. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Pay heed! It is their slander that they say. – 151 “Allah has begotten.” They are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What ails you that you judge in such a wise? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 “Then bring forth your Book, if you are truthful!” 157 They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits). 158 Exaltations to Allah above what they describe, 159 except the servants of God, sincere and devoted. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 "And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service); 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 What though they would say, 167 'If only we had a reminder from the ancients, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And indeed Our Word has already gone forth for Our bondmen who were sent. 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 And see them thou; they themselves shall presently see. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards – so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 179 Your Lord, the Lord of Honor, is too exalted to be considered as they describe Him. 180 And peace be upon all His message-bearers! 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
