The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
