Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
