۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said to his father and his people, “What are these idols before whom you squat (worshipping)?” 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said: "We heard a youth talk about them. He is called Abraham." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: Surely (some doer) has done it; the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 We said: "O fire, become coolness and safety for Abraham." 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 We gave him, in excess, Isaac, and Jacob (for a grandson); and We made each righteous 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
