The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
