۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They asked: "Hast thou come unto us [with this claim] in all earnest - or art thou one of those jesters?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 'Who has done this to our gods' they exclaimed. 'He must surely be a harmdoer' 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 Abraham said, "So, do you worship something instead of God that can neither benefit you nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They exclaimed: "Burn him, and [thereby] succour your gods, if you are going to do [anything]!" 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 We bestowed Isaac and then Jacob on him as an additional boon and We made all of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 AND UNTO Lot, too, We vouchsafed sound judgment and knowledge [of right and wrong,] and saved him from that community which was given to deeds of abomination. [We destroyed those people - for,] verily, they were people lost in evil, depraved 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
