Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: 2 That We made it a distinctly lucid Qur'an that you may understand. 3 Truly, it is inscribed in the Original Book, in Our keeping; it is sublime and full of wisdom. 4 Shall We turn away the Remembrance from you, for that you are a prodigal people? 5 How many a Prophet did We send to the earlier peoples! 6 And never came there a Prophet to them but they used to mock at him. 7 Wherefore We destroyed peoples mightier than these in prowess; and there hath gone forth the example of the ancients. 8 And if thou askest them: who hath created the heavens and the earth? they will surely say: created them the Mighty, the Knower. 9 (It is) He who made the earth to be a cradle for you and made in it ways for you, in order that you are guided. 10 And who sends down rain from the sky in measured amounts, and We revive thereby a dead land - thus will you be brought forth - 11 That has created pairs in all things, and has made for you ships and cattle on which ye ride, 12 So that you may properly mount their backs, and may remember your Lord’s favour when you have mounted them, and say, “Purity is to Him, Who has given this ride in our control, and we did not have the strength for it.” 13 “And indeed we have to return to our Lord.” 14 And they assign to Him a part of His servants; man, to be sure, is clearly ungrateful. 15
