The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 "What! For you the males and for Him the females?" 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
