The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 except those that pray, 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
