The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
Almighty God's Truth.
