The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
