The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
