He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
