۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 You will indeed taste a painful punishment, 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 One of them will say: “I had a companion in the world 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 Then he will say [to his blessed companions], "Are we not going to die, 58 "Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)." 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 Truly, they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They found their father going astray 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
