NAY, but consider the moon! 32 By the receding night 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In Gardens they will question 40 about the sinners. 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 until death approached us". 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 running away from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay! but they do not fear the hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
