The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He verily will be content. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
